The other day I was scanning through news stories and came across an interesting article from Forbes Magazine. It caught my eye due to my growing obsession with fly fishing. It was entitled “North America’s Top 10 Trout-Fishing Towns”. I couldn’t wait to find out where these “Top 10 Towns” would be found.
I found out that Roscoe, New York AKA “Trout Town”, was number three on the list. For those of you who don’t know Roscoe, it is a small town nestled in the Catskill Mountains. It sits on the banks of the Beaverkill River and Willowemoc Creek.
I found some interesting facts about Roscoe in the article. Roscoe is the official birth place of dry fly fishing. What makes it such a hot spot is that it has so many fantastic fisheries in the surrounding areas. You have the Beaverkill River, East & West Branches of the Delaware River, and Willowemoc Creek. These fisheries are teeming with browns and rainbows. The water stays relatively cool all year around, so the fish have plenty of energy for feeding.
Now ProJan Restoration has been in the upstate New York area performing repairs on water, soot, and fire damage for over 35 years. We have had jobs in Binghamton, Hancock, Liberty, Barryville, and yes you guessed it Roscoe, New York. All of these areas line some of the finest fisheries in the USA.
So what’s the moral of the story?? There is more to life than water, soot, and fire damage! 🙂 While I find my self driving through some of the most beautiful areas in the USA, I am reminded that I need to take time for the more “important” things; like fly fishing. So the next time you see a ProJan Restoration truck on the side of the road near Binghamton, Hancock, Liberty, Barryville, and especially Roscoe, look for someone taming the river with a fly pole!
